Building trust in AI to unlock £6.5 billion over the next ten years

The UK market for assuring the trustworthiness of AI systems is expected to increase sixfold over the next decade. It allows more than £6.5 billion as the UK government follows AI to increase growth.

Using AI is critical to the government's objectives to transform the country's public services and the economy, as is securing public faith in the technologies that will provide these changes.

Ensuring Trust in AI to Generate More Than £1 Billion

Assurance guarantees that AI systems perform according to plan, increasing public trust in the technology. Particular focus is on ensuring they are fair and transparent and safeguarding individual privacy.

This segment of the UK's AI sector now consists of approximately 524 enterprises, which use over 12,000 people and generate more than £1 billion. These companies give organizations the tools to build or set up AI responsibly. AI is in high demand as businesses and organizations around the country increasingly adopt it.

A new AI assurance platform will be essential, providing British firms with a one-stop shop for information on the steps they can take to identify and reduce the possible risks and damages AI poses. This will focus on taking on the growing need for AI assurance tools and services. This will also collaborate with the industry to establish a new roadmap that will assist in navigating international AI standards.

Global Collaboration for AI Safety

Supporting the first conference of the International Network of AI Safety Institutes members in San Francisco later this month is just one example of the UK AI Safety Institute's continuing close collaboration with international partners.

Today, the AI Safety Institute introduced a new AI safety cooperation with Singapore, further expanding its worldwide reach. The agreement, signed this afternoon in London by Singapore's Minister for Internet Development and Communication Josephine Teo and Peter Kyle, calls for the two institutes to collaborate closely to advance research and work towards a common set of guidelines, standards, and policies.

Statements of Peter Kyle and Josephine Teo

The Secretary of State for Science, creativity, and Technology, Peter Kyle, stated:

"AI has huge potential to improve our public services, raise productivity, and rebuild our economy. Yet, in order to fully benefit from it, we must first create trust in these systems, which are increasingly incorporated into our daily lives."

"The efforts I'm proposing today will help achieve just that: providing businesses with the support and clarity they require to use AI safely and responsibly and establishing the UK as a true hub of AI assurance expertise."

Josephine Teo, Singapore's Minister of Digital Development and Information, stated:

"We are dedicated to achieving our goal of using AI for the public good in Singapore and worldwide. This Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the United Kingdom, a significant partner, expands on current areas of shared interest to include new prospects in artificial intelligence."

"Our collaborative support of the Global Network of AI Safety Institutes (AISI) is especially noteworthy. We aim to improve AI safety by improving the capabilities of our AISIs so that our people and organizations can confidently use AI and enjoy the benefits of its widespread adoption."
