Challenges in Measuring AI Tool's Popularity

Tech Columnist, David Gewirtz at ZDNet shared his thoughts in ZDNet reports that 2024 is the era that made the use of AI common in business. He thought, why not measure the popularity of the tools used mostly in business?

He gathered the data in August and noted that measuring the popularity of each tool was challenging. Some tools are standalone, i.e., sufficient to work efficiently alone, while many others use products, making it difficult to measure the use of certain tools in business.

How Gewirtz Estimate the Popularity of AI Tools?

Semrush and Similarweb are some platforms that helped him measure the popularity of AI tools in business. He uses metrics from these platforms to estimate traffic volume on AI tools and products used in the market share.

Other Popular AI Tools

While measuring the popularity of AI tools in business, David Gewirtz noticed that many tools other than ChatGPT, Canva, DeepL, Google Gemini, and Character.AI were being used in business in 2024.

What are these? People have incorporated the following AI Tools in their businesses:

  • Claude
  • Perplexity AI
  • Microsoft Copilot

Gewirtz Thoughts

David reported in ZDNet about the popularity of AI Tools, what that means, and their importance in today’s age. Using AI in business is fine and fun.

He vocalized his concerns in his statement that when the iPhone was introduced, and then the App Store came along, and all these apps appeared, the good ones either became unicorns or were gobbled up by big tech. The list above?

He said, “I’m betting that in just a few years, it will be completely different. In 2024, AI was overhyped and unreliable and certainly not ready for prime time for any business to use. But of course, these applications will be better and smarter and likely replaced by more advanced offerings.”
