Microsoft Build 2025: AI Agents and the Open Agentic Web

Read Time: 1 minutes

The age of AI agents is arrived. AI models are now more powerful and efficient due to innovative advances in memory and reasoning, and we are witnessing new ways in which AI systems can help us all in problem-solving. For instance, GitHub Copilot is already used by 15 million developers, and its capabilities, such as code review and agent mode, are making it easier for developers to code, check, activate, and troubleshoot.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is being used by hundreds of thousands of clients to help with research, conception, and solution development. Azure AI Foundry is being used by businesses such as Fujitsu and NTT DATA to develop and administer AI agents and apps that help in prioritizing sales leads, speeding the preparation of proposals, and revealing client insights.

Open Agentic Web

Microsoft imagines a world where agents function in end-to-end business, team, organizational, and individual contexts. An open agentic network is a new internet vision in which AI agents act as decision-makers and task-persisters for people or organizations. It demonstrates its efforts to realize this goal through platforms, products, and infrastructure at Microsoft Build

To enable developers and organizations to create the next big thing, they are empowering developers with new models and coding agents, presenting enterprise-grade agents, adopting open protocols, creating platforms like Windows, GitHub, and Azure AI Foundry, the best places to build, and using AI to speed up scientific discovery.

Software Development Lifecycle with AI

AI is significantly altering the way that code is created, implemented, and maintained. AI is helping developers focus on more complex tasks and stay in the flow of their environment for longer.

New features across platforms, including Windows, GitHub, and Azure AI Foundry:

GitHub: With a unique asynchronous coding agent built within the GitHub platform, GitHub Copilot is transitioning from an in-editor assistance to an agentic AI partner. They are enhancing GitHub Models with corporate controls, lightweight tests, and rapid administration so that teams may test out best-in-class models without ever leaving GitHub.

Windows: Windows continues to be one of the most accessible and popular platforms for developers, offering scale, flexibility, and increasing opportunities. Windows AI Foundry provides a dependable and integrated platform that supports the training and deployment phases of the AI developer lifecycle.

Azure AI Foundry: Azure AI Foundry is a single platform that allows developers to create, modify, and oversee AI agents and applications. Microsoft is hosting and billing us directly for the Grok 3 and Grok 3 small models they are introducing to our ecosystem from xAI. Developers have access to over 1,900 AI models hosted by Microsoft and partners.

Making AI Agents More Capable

AI agents are transforming not just the way developers create, but also how individuals, groups, and businesses do tasks. Microsoft is launching Microsoft Discovery at Build, an extensible platform designed to enable researchers to use agentic AI to revolutionize the discovery process, supporting R&D departments across several industries.

They are developing shared infrastructure and open standards to enable the development of AI agents and give clients access to special features.
