NVIDIA to Collaborate with India on New Custom AI Chip

Read Time: 2 minutes

According to reports, Nvidia plans to work with India to create a unique AI chip by using the nation's expertise in semiconductor design. According to The Economic Times, Nvidia is considering working with India to create a new AI chip, taking advantage of the country's growing technology sector and semiconductor design expertise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang spoke about this possible collaboration during their meeting in the US earlier this year. The collaboration talks started when India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang met in the US earlier this year. Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's minister of electronics and information technology, stated that these talks are still in their early phases.

NVIDIA Taps into India’s Semiconductor Talent

With about 19% of all chip designers worldwide based in India, a sizable fraction of the world's semiconductor designers are employed by large companies. NVIDIA's partnership aims to leverage this talent to develop AI chips especially tailored for India. We are leading Indian private enterprises and organizations like the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). It may be instrumental in adapting the AI chip to meet regional requirements.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang acknowledged India's artificial intelligence potential, highlighting the nation's capacity to promote innovation. After his discussion with Prime Minister Modi, Huang claimed that AI presents India with many new opportunities, ranging from economic growth to scientific advancements.

NVIDIA’s Dominance in the Global AI Chip Market

With a market value of $3.39 trillion, NVIDIA is now the second most valuable business in the world, just topped by Apple. Its success is largely due to its industry-leading graphics chips, which are essential to AI-driven breakthroughs.

By working with India, a nation renowned for its robust semiconductor design capabilities and developing technical infrastructure, the business hopes to broaden its worldwide reach. NVIDIA expects to create AI processors that would meet the nation's internal demands and inspire advancements in fields like government technology, security, and transportation.

This calculated action indicates NVIDIA's dedication to developing its footprint in emerging regions and India's increasing significance in the global AI scene. Thanks to NVIDIA's relationship with the country, India is now positioned as a key player in the global AI chip market, representing a big step forward in developing unique AI technology.

Economic Times Report

According to the Economic Times story, Nvidia and India have discussed chips for particular Indian use cases, like security systems for the country's extensive railway networks. Many of Nvidia's smart city and video analytics solutions are already based on its Orin edge AI platform, and Hitachi's real-time railway analysis tools already use that hardware.

However, the Arm Cortex-A78AE processors included in many Orin devices are far more powerful than the limited semiconductor manufacturing facilities currently being constructed in India. It is unthinkable for The Register that such chips and other Nvidia technology will emerge from an Indian factory this decade.
